STgenetics is seeking an innovative and multidisciplinary scientist to join
our R&D team as a Functional Genomics and Systems Biology Scientist. This
role is ideal for a highly motivated individual who brings strong expertise
in livestock genomics, bioinformatics, and systems-level thinking. The
successful candidate will lead the integration of genomic and multi-omics
data to identify causal variants and biological pathways underlying complex
traits. This position supports precision breeding, resilience, and
sustainability goals across dairy and beef systems.

This is a full time position to be based in STgen headquarters in Texas,
USA.

Responsibilities / Duties

- Lead genome-wide association studies (GWAS), QTL mapping, and fine-mapping
to identify causal variants and regulatory regions.
- Integrate multi-omics datasets (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, metagenomics,
microbiome) to connect genotypes to phenotypes.
- Develop and refine bioinformatics workflows for data preprocessing, variant
  calling, annotation, and statistical analysis.
- Design and implement multi-trait, longitudinal, and systems-level models to
  dissecttrait architecture.
- Use network analysis and functional annotation tools to interpret biological
  pathways and gene regulation.
- Leverage high-performance computing environments to manage and analyze large-
  scale genomic and phenotypic datasets.
- Contribute to the development of genomic selection tools and indices for
traits related to fertility, efficiency, health, and emissions.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to align discoveries with
  commercial breeding strategies.
- Prepare technical reports, publications, and presentations to communicate
  scientific outcomes effectively.

Education / Qualifications

- Ph.D. in Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in association analyses, fine-mapping, QTL
detection, and network-based analysis of complex traits in livestock.
- Strong expertise in interpreting short- and long-read alignment data,
including proficiency with visualization tools such as IGV.
- Fluency in NGS software (e.g., bwa, samtools, bcftools, GATK, freebayes)
and familiarity with standard data formats (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF).
- Proven experience in identifying causal variants. A demonstrated track
record of at least one discovery is highly desirable.
- Strong foundation in integrating omics data (e.g., transcriptomics,
  metagenomics, proteomics) with genomic data.
- Proficient in R, Python, and Bash scripting, with experience managing
  bioinformatics pipelines in Unix/Linux environments.
- Familiarity with GWAS methods (e.g., mlma/loco, fastGWA, ridge
regression/BLUP, ssGWAS, Bayesian methods, etc) and software (e.g., PLINK,
  GCTA, BOLT-LMM, etc).
- Familiar in tools for genetic/genomic evaluation such as BLUPf90.
- Understanding of biological networks, gene regulation, and functional
  annotation to support causal inference.
- Proven record of peer-reviewed publications, data interpretation, and
  scientific communication.
- Fluency in English.
