Livestock Research Scientist

As a leader in applying cutting-edge technology to animal breeding,
STgenetics is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Livestock Research
Scientist to join our dynamic team. In this role, a successful candidate
will support STgenetics’ extensive genomics research and sustainability
initiatives, collaborating with various sectors of the supply chain to
develop and deploy innovative solutions for beef and dairy production.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

- Coordinate and support livestock research programs focused on
  innovative beef and dairy solutions with a particular emphasis on
  genetic improvement strategies.

- Oversee project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure
  smooth progress and successful outcomes

- Maintain and strengthen existing client relationships through
  excellent customer service, value-added services, and technical
  support

- Ensure functionality of research equipment and timely flow of
  phenotypic data into the database

- Evaluate large datasets to extract meaningful insights

- Track, document, and report research findings

- Assist in the preparation and presentation of research findings to
  internal and external stakeholders

- Contribute to the improvement of research methodologies, phenotyping
  tools, and data auditing procedures by developing automation and
  scripts to enhance efficiency and accuracy

- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support the development
  and optimization of evaluation tools and selection indexes, tailored
  to improve livestock performance and sustainability.

- Develop and maintain relationships with industry partners to
  facilitate the acquisition of phenotypic data and oversee the
  implementation of effective data collection and management protocols

- Stay current in areas of responsibilities, proactively identify and
  pursue relevant research opportunities to enhance our program

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

- Masters or PhD in Animal Science, Genetics or related field

- In-depth knowledge of dairy and beef production systems; practical
  field experience is an advantage

- Proficiency in managing large datasets and generating insightful
  audits or progress reports

- Experience with electronic feed intake or gas flux systems is an
  advantage

- Familiarity with process verified programs, carbon modeling, and/or
  carbon accounting is an advantage

- Experience in scripting languages, databases and/or other computational
  tools is a plus

- Knowledge of statistical methods and software (e.g., SAS, R, or JMP) is
  a plus

- Self driven with excellent attention to detail

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage
  multiple tasks

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English,
  proficiency in Spanish is a plus
