Dear AngenMap community,
Alex Clop and Sebastian Ramos-Onsins, researchers at the Centre for Research in
Agricultural Genomics (CRAG; http://www.cragenomica.es), in the Barcelona area
(Catalonia, Spain), are looking for a PhD candidate, each, to apply for the Joan
Oro 3-year PhD scholarship call from the Catalan government.
The candidate should have obtained a bachelors/MsC degree between 1 January 2018
and the start date of the contract (exceptions apply).
If successful, the candidate will work on:
1. Alex Clop: a project aiming at identifying genetic variants with high
potential
to affect male reproduction traits in pigs. To achieve this goal, whole genome
sequencing and single cell multiome (ATAC and RNA) analysis of the porcine
testicle to compare (i) a group of boars with extreme gEBVs (genetic merit) for
semen quality and (ii) animals displaying non-obstructive azoospermia with
normal
control boars. (Alex Clop email: Alex Clop at alex.clop cragenomica.es; ORCID:
000-0001-9238-2728).
2. Sebastian Ramos-Onsins: Research on statistical and Population Genomics: The
research is focused on (i) the Development of Population statistics and methods
to
measure the levels and patterns of diversity in domestic and wild species; (ii)
Development of bioinformatic tools for the scientific community interested in
variability studies, and (iii) Genome-wide studies of empirical data, focused on
understanding the adaptation process under changes in environmental
(domestication, climate change) contexts. (Sebastian E. Ramos-Onsins email:
sebastian.ramos cragenomica.es; ORCID: 000-0002-1776-140X).
The candidate must hold a bachelor degree on Veterinary Sciences, biology,
genetics, bioinformatics or equivalent and may need to have also a MsC in a
relevant field.
Application deadline: 10 October 2023.
