Hi Carl,
We have run a lot of samples on minIONs. You won't need anything too extreme
for minion, laptops can definitely run them.
Reaching out to Paul.Kotturi nanoporetech.com directly might help you. If its
not powerful enough to keep up with basecalling you will have to give it time
after the run to finish.
Loan Nguyen (t.nguyen3 uq.edu.au) is excellent at running minIONs and I am
sure she would give you some tips when you run it too. There is definitely a
learning curve at the start so make sure you do some test runs first.
Cheers
Liz

We are developing a capstone course and would like to use the Minion in the
lab for whole genome and targeted sequencing. We have found the Nanopore
company to be unresponsive to our queries regarding the recommended
computational resources needed to support these activities. If anyone that
has successfully used the Minion for these experimental approaches could
provide information regarding their computer system, that would be most
useful. Also, any tips regarding using the Minion would be greatly
appreciated.
