Scopes: The focus will be on underlying statistical methods and not on computational methods. It is assumed that all participants will have a basic understanding of genetics and statistics.

Lecturer: Prof. STEPHEN BISHOP of the Roslin Institute, Edinburgh
Scopes: Disease resistance is now becoming one of the major focus areas within animal genetics and one of the main concerns for animal breeders. There is a need to unite genetics and epidemiology to reduce disease incidence, severity and transmission. This course will cover basic principles of disease genetics, as well as techniques to evaluate the genetic control of infectious diseases and to plan genetic selection programs to reduce disease impacts.

Scopes: The purpose of this course will be to convey the basic concepts for creating and predicting response to selection in breeding populations, to present and discuss methods for and issues in development of economic breeding goals and selection strategies, design of breeding programs, and economic assessment of breeding programs. Focus will be on breeding programs in livestock and the incorporation of new technologies, including marker-assisted selection.
