ANGENMAP is operated on SmartList, which automates the processing of your requests through emails. Below is a brief introduction on its usage. Using the List Server --------------------- 1. The POSTING ADDRESS: angenmap@animalgenome.org is for posting your mails to participate in the discussion, ask questions, or send an announcement. Please note you must be a list subscriber in order for your mail to be accepted for distribution. Please also be aware that your mail must be sent in plain text for the list to process. i.e. no mail in hyper-text (html) format nor with any attachment is accepted. 2. The SERVICE ADDRESS: angenmap-request@animalgenome.org is for handling "Subcription"/ "unsubscription"/ "info"/ "help" requests. Here are some examples how to use it: - To get more information about this list service, send "info" or "help" as in: To: angenmap-request@animalgenome.org Subject: info - To subscribe to the angenmap list, send "subscribe" on Subject line as in: To: angenmap-request@animalgenome.org Subject: subscribe - To unsubscribe from a mailinglist, simply use "unsubscribe" in Subject as in: To: angenmap-request@animalgenome.org Subject: unsubscribe In the event of your address change, it would probably be the wisest to first unsubscribe the old address (this can be done from your new address), then subscribe the new address (the order is important). It is advisable that you do not send multiple service requests in one mail. Only the first request will be processed per mail. Most service requests are processed automatically without human intervention. In events you may encounter any problem, email the listmaster for help. NOTE: ==== The -request server usually does quite a good job in discriminating between (un)subscribe requests and messages intended for the maintainer. If you'd like to make sure a human reads your message, make it look like a reply (i.e. the first word in the Subject: field should be "Re:", without the quotes of course); the -request server does not react to replies, which will be forward to the listmaster. 3. MAIL DIGEST: If you do not wish to receive instant email posts on the listserv, a new "Mail Digest" function is available for you. i.e. You can choose to receive weekly post summary instead. To use this function, you need to login the AnGenMap members directory: https://www.animalgenome.org/community/angenmap/dir - go to "update your profile" - in the middle section fill "Digest Email" with your email address - at the bottom of the form, choose to unsubscribe AnGenMap (if you wish to maintain your ability to post to the list, put your email in "Alternative Email" box as well). Once the form is submitted, allow 24 hours for the new setting to roll into the system. The "digest" summary will be sent every Friday. Note that the new AnGenMap Digest is different from the traditional listserv digest functions where all digested mails are piled to make a huge mail body. The AnGenMap Digest is to only send you a summary of the new posts, and relay reading of the mails to web links to the mail archive. Using the Archive Server ------------------------ Every submission sent to this list is archived. The mail header of a posting on this list usually contains the file name (usually a number) under which it is archived. The X-Mailing-List: field contains the mail address of the list and the file in which this submission was archived. If you want to access this archive, you have to send mails to the -request address with the word "archive" as the first word of your Subject line, as in: To: angenmap-request@animalgenome.org Subject: archive help Alternatively, you can retrieve the archived mails via a Web interface, which is powered by a list archive search engine.
